2011 St George Stakes Tip Are In

February 25th, 2011

The 2011 St George Stakes at Caulfield features a healthy mix of old school favourites and up and coming champions.

Worth $200,000 this 1800m race has already attracted a good deal of interest from punters.

Leading the early betting is one of the most recognised runners, Heart Of Dreams.

At $3.20 on Luxbet fixed price markets the five-year-old is a clear favourite after coming very close to running down Typhoon Tracy in the C.F Orr Stakes last start.

He will benefit from the jump in distance much the same as Shocking which found it a little hard to get going last start but is given more of a shot this weekend at $10.

Second favourite is number 10 Spacecraft which ran a consistent race in the C.F Orr staying around 6th place for the entire trip. It’s another which will prefer the extra metres.

The very impressive Ginga Dude is next at a $9 fixed price. The seven-year-old gelding has amassed 12 wins from 37 starts and has been in or near the placings during his last three preparations.

On the same price is Lord Pyrus, another New Zealand horse, which has been very impressive this season winning last start and coming second in the two previous.

Experienced campaigner Trusting rounds out the best chances at $11.

Of the roughies Faint Perfume which has contested the likes of the McKinnon Stakes, Caulfield Cup and C.F Orr Stakes is at a $26 fixed price.

It’s impossible to overlook that glorious last start run from Heart Of Dreams though. Any horse mentioned in the same league as Typhoon Tracy has to be special.

Luckily there’s still plenty of place value on offer and our tip is for Lord Pyrus to continue his good form and just edge out the other kiwi Ginga Dude.

Despite that being three of the favourites they are at very generous odds and the trifecta would pay extremely well.
