2010 St George Stakes Won By La Rocket

February 22nd, 2010

The 2010 St George Stakes was just one of several races to provide a thrilling finish on Blue Diamond Stakes Day at the Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday.

La Rocket, trained by Dale Sutton, took out the Group 2 race by a half neck, with Heart Of Dreams closing in on the gelding in the dying metres and taking second place.

The Mick Price-trained Heart Of Dreams was the favourite for the 2010 St George Stakes but could not break La Rocket’s speed. Price’s other starter, Miss Maren, finished in third spot.

La Rocket made a devastating move down the home straight, sprinting past the leader, in a nail-biting win.

Pacino took the lead from the beginning, staying out in front until 300 metres from the finishing line, finishing in a disappointing seventh.

Five-year-old La Rocket was content sitting behind Pacino, and made a devastating move down the home straight sprinting past the leader in a nail-biting win, which sees the gelding a new contender for the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) on the 6th of March.

Also taking place last Saturday was the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) which saw a fantastic run from Star Witness.
