2010 St George Stakes Final Field

February 18th, 2010

This Saturday, as sixth race of the day, the 2010 St George Stakes will be held at the illustrious Caulfield Racecourse with 12 starters.

While the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) dominates the day’s proceedings, the Group 2 race will see some fantastic horses compete in the $200,000 event.

Drawing the inside barrier was the David Hayes-trained Zagreb. Winning the Holdfast Insurance Birthday Cup (1800m) in January, the five-year-old could certainly do well with this favourable positioning, which is also over the 1,800 metre distance.

The 2010 St George Stakes will be held at the illustrious Caulfield Racecourse with 12 starters.

Hayes’ other starter, Changingoftheguard, drew the ninth barrier.

Starting out wide will be Speed Gifted, with Bart Cummings’ Viewed on the geldings inside. Six-year-old Viewed is a strong runner over the longer distance, so will need to start well to overcome the barrier draw.

Cummings’ other entrant is Moatize who will start Saturday’s race from the middle sixth barrier.

A strong contender for the 2010 St George Stakes is Shocking, and starting from the eighth barrier should not be too much of a problem for the Melbourne Cup winner.
As part of the Blue Diamond Stakes Day, the 2010 St George Stakes will take place alongside the Blue Diamond Stakes and the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) in the nine-race day at Caulfield.
