Held on the highly anticipated Blue Diamond Stakes Day during the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival, the St George Stakes takes place at the Caulfield Racecourse every February. Due to a name change in 2012, the St George Stakes is sometimes referred to as the Peter Young Stakes.

The St George Stakes is an Australian Group 2 weight-for-age race offering prize money of $200,000 to its starters. The race takes place over 1,800 metres making it an important race to keep an eye on in the lead up to the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) later in the carnival.

The Blue Diamond Stakes Day features an impressive seven Group races, with the headline event being the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) with the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) and Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) also generating a lot of attention. The day also features the Group 2 Autumn Classic (1400m) and the Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m), with the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) rounding off the day’s proceedings.
